Ember · दीप · چراغ · ਲੌ

When I named this show Ember. Deep. Charāgh. Loh., I chose four words for the same flame: Ember in English, Deep (दीप) in Hindi, Charāgh (چراغ) in Urdu, and Loh (ਲੋ) in Punjabi.

For me, it is a statement of belief—that light does not belong to one tongue, one tradition, or one way of seeing. And neither does art. The multilingual character of this country is not a complication; it is our richest inheritance. I want any visitor to feel that this space was made for them, knowing that no particular background, language, class, or culture is the price of entry here.

But this flame carries a dual meaning: it is also the individual artistic light of four creators whose differences are the entire point. Each carries a vision so committed that it illuminates a distinct point of view, making tomorrow’s art world a brighter place.

You see this light in:

Kamar Alam canvases arriving at a quality of silence that feels increasingly rare and increasingly necessary. Gurmeet Marwah using humour to say the unsayable, to hold a mirror to the everyday and make you laugh before you flinch. Shubhra Das insistence on beauty as a form of rigour rather than decoration. Chaitali Chanda colour so vibrant and so joyful it feels less like painting and more like an act of celebration.

This is both a group exhibition and a declaration that Indian contemporary art is wide, plural, and alive. These four flames will not dim. Come and see, in whatever language you carry.
