Sanjoy Patra

(b. 1974) is a contemporary Indian artist whose practice draws upon mythology, history and the changing realities of modern life. His works reinterpret familiar cultural narratives through a contemporary visual language, often bringing together traditional stories and references with questions surrounding technology, society and human existence. His compositions possess a strong narrative quality, encouraging viewers to discover multiple layers of meaning.

Patra completed both his BFA and MFA from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, in 2003 and 2005 respectively. His practice continues to evolve through an engagement with the dialogue between India’s cultural heritage and the contemporary world.
