Rahim Mirza

Artist

(b. 1969, Bhopal) is a contemporary Indian artist whose practice is distinguished by his sustained engagement with the leaf as a central visual and symbolic motif. What begins as a simple element of nature becomes, in his work, a metaphor for growth, renewal, change, and the passage of time.

Mirza’s relationship with the leaf is deeply contemplative. The emergence of a new leaf suggests beginnings and renewal, while its gradual transformation and eventual fall evoke ageing, transition, and the cyclical nature of existence. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, he transforms this familiar natural form into an expressive language of colour and symbolism.

He studied printmaking at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, and subsequently developed a distinctive painting practice that reflects his sensitivity towards nature and its changing rhythms.

His work offers a quiet meditation on life’s cycles, impermanence, renewal, and the profound poetry contained within the natural world.
