(b. 1972, West Bengal) has made the bull and cow central to a distinctivebody of contemporary Indian painting. Within his works, these familiar animals acquire an almost monumental presence, becoming symbols of strength, resilience, family and the enduring relationship between people and the natural world.
Rendered through clean contours and luminous colour, his bulls and cows appear in\ varied poses and expressive forms. Their individuality is heightened through carefully constructed backgrounds, while the recurring presence of pairs and familial groupings introduces a tender, human dimension to the imagery.
Das completed his B.F.A. at Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, followed by an M.F.A. from Karnataka State Open University, Mysore. After moving to Mumbai in 2006, he worked as a muralist before establishing himself as a full-time artist, gradually developing the bovine imagery that has become central to his practice.
