(b. 1977, West Bengal) is a contemporary Indian painter and sculptor who lives and works in Kolkata. Rooted in the landscapes and cultural memory of Bengal, her practice draws from rural life, nature, and everyday human experiences, translating familiar surroundings into intimate and evocative imagery.
Women, children, birds, flowers, fruits, trees, and verdant landscapes recur throughout her paintings, rendered in vibrant colours and expressive forms. Her works carry a quiet sense of nostalgia, while themes of femininity and motherhood bring a deeply personal dimension to her compositions. In sculpture, this sensitivity finds expression through the human figure, particularly the female form, explored through movement, strength, and balance.
Chanda completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts in Painting from the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship, affiliated with Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, in 2002, followed by the Gurukul Parichaya Sikshakram under Rajya Charukala Prasad, Government of West Bengal, in 2004.
Her early practice received recognition from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2001 and the State Government Charu Kala Utsav in 2003. Over the years, Chanda has expanded her practice across painting and sculpture, exhibiting extensively in India and abroad. Her evolving practice continues to weave together the human figure, the natural world, and the enduring memories of her cultural landscape.
