(b. 1947, Salur) is a modern Indian landscape painter whose colorful artwork celebrates the environment. Born in Andhra Pradesh and currently based in Hyderabad, his entire professional practice revolves around a single core subject: the tree.
His style transitions away from early street scenes into vast, peaceful landscapes where trees act as lifelike characters. He views trees as sacred cultural symbols of giving and uses acrylics to paint them layer by layer, building thick textures that give his canvas a sense of depth. Instead of typical greens, he gives his trees bold personas by using unusual color combinations like bright primary colors, stark blacks, moody grays, and vivid reds.
Rao completed his formal art education at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in 1999. He then earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the University of Hyderabad in 2001. His honors include a government Junior Fellowship and a state-level painting award from Potti Sriramulu Telugu University.
With a career spanning several decades, his paintings have been featured in over 60 group and solo exhibitions across India, the UAE, Germany, and Taiwan. His dramatic landscape canvases are highly sought after by global collectors, bringing a vibrant, nature-inspired energy into modern architectural spaces.
