Asit Patnaik

Artist

(b. 1968, Odisha) is a modern Indian painter who explores human relationships, feelings, and how people interact with one another. Based in New Delhi, his artwork focuses on the emotions of modern life.

His paintings feature realistic men and women captured in simple, expressive poses. He is best known for his popular “Relations” series, where he uses body language and quiet glances to show love, closeness, and vulnerability. He paints these figures against simple, textured backgrounds to make them stand out. His color choice balances cool background shades with warm skin tones, and he often paints women with bright red hair to represent strength.

Patnaik earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Government College of Art and Crafts in Khallikote, Odisha. He then completed his Master of Fine Arts at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, where he graduated at the top of his class with a gold medal. Early in his career, he received a National Cultural Scholarship from the Government of India.

With a career spanning over three decades, Patnaik has displayed his work in more than 40 solo and group exhibitions in major cities like Mumbai, Dubai, and New York. His paintings are highly valued by art collectors worldwide and are featured in the official art collection of the President of India.
