Ami Patel

Artist

(b. 1971, Mumbai) is a contemporary Indian mixed-media artist whose abstract work is inspired by nature and the elements of the earth. Based in Mumbai, she translates environmental themes into raw, highly textured artwork.

Her signature style involves cutting and shaping metals like polished brass, copper, and aluminum, mounting them directly onto wood panels. Her popular artwork series rely on rich colors ranging from warm desert ochres to vibrant teals. By using metal instead of canvas, she uses the reflective surfaces of the materials to create clean, abstract designs.

Patel graduated with a first-class BFA in 1993 and an MFA in Portraits in 1995 from the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, where she ranked first in her class. Her honors include the Maharashtra State Art Award and a government cultural research scholarship.

Alongside exhibiting at national fairs and creating public murals, Patel serves as a core committee member and the Visual Arts Curator for a premier, iconic metropolitan arts festival. Her three-dimensional metal panels introduce a striking tactile dimension to contemporary spaces.
