Afza Tamkanat

Artist

(b. 1990, Hyderabad) is a contemporary artist whose work captures changing urban streets and personal memories. Moving between her hometown of Hyderabad and Sydney, Australia, she documents daily routines, local architecture, and quiet moments.

Her unique technique combines watercolors with coffee stains on paper or canvas, creating warm, sepia tones that look like vintage photography. Her clean compositions focus on isolated subjects like sparrows, older vehicles, and passing city pedestrians against simple backgrounds.

The daughter of eminent painter Fawad Tamkanat, she carries forward a prominent regional artistic legacy. She completed her BFA at JNAFAU in 2011 and earned her MFA from the University of Hyderabad in 2014.

Her paintings have been exhibited globally in cities including New York, Singapore, and Melbourne. She is a recipient of the national Devi Award, and her work is represented in notable international collections. Her evocative, cross-cultural pieces provide a unique depth and timeless dialogue for discerning collectors worldwide
